Brian Tolstedt graduated from Montana State University in 1985. An internship in Seattle provided experience in large scale commercial and residential development. In1989 Brian returned to Bozeman where he established himself in a prominent local firm as a Senior Designer, Project Architect and Partner, working on projects in excess of $20,000,000. With over 20 years of experience, Brian has been designing award winning upscale homes and commercial architecture with numerous publications and awards for the firms he has worked with.
“For me, growing up in Montana provided an intrinsic sense of the landscape, western culture and regional archetype which has defined the history of the area. Blending this heritage with our current culture creates architecture which is intuitive and both reflective of the past and speaks to the now as a point in continuing history. Architecture developed with this underlying philosophy remains timeless and becomes part of the culture from which it is derived. Incorporating local natural materials into buildings with a clear understanding of purpose creates an architecture which is part of the landscape and not separated from it. This becomes the fabric of the built environment.”
“The measure of any successful project is dependent upon the relationship between the client and the architect. Through this relationship the architect is able to interpret and balance functional needs, environmental realities, economics and aesthetics arriving at a project which is a direct reflection of the client’s dreams.” Brian Tolstedt, AIA
